Highlights

Nuestra Danza Sin Fronteras (Our Dance Without Borders)
April 12, 6:00pm

Mexican Folkorico dance group formed in 2017 under the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence with the intention of utilizing traditional Mexican folkloric dance as a form of healing. The goal is two-fold: to celebrate and practice cultural knowledge while empowering participants to own their narratives and heal traumas through cultural connections. Through the life of this project, a third goal naturally emerged: to utilize cultural expression as a form of protest. NDSF has become an outlet for non-traditional activism through dance and storytelling, and recognizes that the practice, exhibition, and connection to cultural knowledge and tradition is the greatest form of resistance.

Movement 515 Spoken Word Poetry
April 11, 5:00pm

Movement 515 is an urban arts community where, twice a week, students and mentors come together to create spoken word poetry and graffiti art. Attempting to slow down the world and investigate themselves, they work toward becoming change agents, shedding light on the impact human emotion and connection brings to the global community.

Son Peruchos Latin Fusion Band
April 12, 6:30pm

Son Peruchos is a fusion of Andean and South American folk music utilizing traditional instruments such as the zampona, quena and charango. This musical group also integrates their traditional Andean sound with more modern Latin and Caribbean rhythms such as cumbia, bachata and rock en español.

Leradee & the Positives
April 11, 6:30pm

Des Moines’ own Roots and Dancehall Reggae band. Soulful, deep, energetic and engaging performance. Covering from Is this Love by Bob Marley to the sounds of Third World and more.
